The client: Ludlow Church of England School, a community academy based in Shropshire whose single vision of ‘Excellence together’ informs every activity.

 

Background: following a tender process in 2019, Fidelis was awarded the school cleaning contract, which covered daily housekeeping, washrooms and deep cleaning services, plus the provision of washroom consumables and additional cleaning during the school holidays. Fidelis was chosen due to a clear and comprehensive presentation of service levels, costs, health and safety policies and COSHH regulations which, says Paul Isaacs, Estate and Facilities Manager, “set the right ground rules early on”. Eight DBS-checked operatives provide 110 hours of cleaning services per week.

The requirement: to present a sparkling, hygienic environment each school day, using safe techniques and products, delivered within the framework of safeguarding policies.

 

What we did

What we did: the purpose of school cleaning is to create spaces which promote effective teaching and learning, removing detrimental impacts on wellness or concentration where appropriate. Maintaining standards in a 700 pupil-capacity school necessitates robust management and attention to detail, especially when cleaning such diverse areas as dining halls, kitchens, classrooms, laboratories and corridors (especially so following Covid 19). Quarterly deep cleans of the entire school are “structured, organised and completed on time,” says Paul.

Equally important is the ability to listen and adapt to the school’s changing needs. Paul notes that any issues have “always been solved swiftly and positively through good communication and a great on-site supervisor.”

The relationship works both ways, with Fidelis providing Paul with daily briefings which “help the maintenance team greatly”.
